Human-wildlife conflict has inspired great minds in the world to develop technology to prevent hazards to human assets and damage to wildlife. Techniques range from empirical and ancient proven strategies, for example: fencing and using livestock-guarding dogs, to the most sophisticated technologies. In this section we will be discussing methods and, if they had been tested, their reliability.

Asset loss and fear are some of the most common reasons behind human-wildlife conflict. In the specific case of large carnivores, historical records highlight that since the domestication of cattle, large mammalian carnivores have been a threat to their assets.

Recognising the importance of cattle within human societies is central to understand how it triggers conflict, and in some scenarios, retaliation. Cattle depredation has been argued as not being only an economic loss, but also a social impact to the affected part.
